Repeating tasks
Make a task repeat, what happens when you finish or miss one, skipping one occurrence, and stopping or deleting a series.
A repeating task is one task that moves itself on each time. It doesn’t make a pile of copies.
Make a task repeat
Tap Repeat in the add bar’s options, or the repeat line in the editor. Choose one of:
- Daily
- Weekly
- Every 2 weeks
- Monthly
- Quarterly
- Yearly
For Weekly, pick the days under Repeat on, or tap Mon-Fri for weekdays. Tap Done.
The editor then shows something like “Repeats weekly on Mon, Wed”.
What happens when you complete it
The task is logged as done and comes back as a fresh copy for its next occurrence, with its checklist unticked.
- With a due date: the next due date follows the original schedule, not the day you actually finished it. A task due on the 1st that you finish on the 15th is next due on the 1st of the following cycle. It stays in the Inbox and comes back to Today on that day.
- With no due time (“Anytime”): it’s planned for the next day in its pattern.
If you miss some
If one or more occurrences go by while you’re away, the task comes back to Today once, dated to the most recent occurrence you missed. Missed days don’t stack up as several copies.
Skip one, or delete the whole series
Swipe left and tap Delete, or tap Delete in the editor. You’ll be asked:
Delete repeating task? Skip this one moves it to its next date. Nothing is marked done. Delete series removes it for good, along with every future repeat.
- Skip this one: the task moves straight to its next date. Nothing is logged as done, so your streak and history are left alone. The snackbar tells you the next date, and UNDO puts it back.
- Delete series: the task and all its future repeats are deleted. You have about four seconds to tap UNDO.
- Cancel: nothing changes.
Deleting several selected tasks at once deletes the whole series for any repeating ones, without asking.
Stop a task repeating, but keep it
Open the editor, tap the repeat line, choose Never, then Done. It becomes an ordinary task.
Take it off Today for today
On Today, swipe left and tap All Tasks. The task stays off Today for the rest of the day and gets a later due date. The snackbar says when it’s next due (for example “Moved to tomorrow”).
Streaks
Once you’ve done a repeating task at least twice in a row, the editor shows a line like “🔥 3 in a row · done 12 times”, and the task gets a 🔥 chip in your lists. Profile → Statistics has a Repeating tasks card.
To hide the chips on task rows, turn off Repeat Streaks on Tasks in Appearance settings. Streaks still show in the editor and in Statistics.
